Overseers: Mr. Mendelssohn
During this meeting:
Ø Separated into groups and completed independent tasks
Ø
Facilities
Engineering – Figured out how to develop and build a Bio-processor, using a
website with step-by-step instructions as a guideline.
Ø
Growing Algae –
Cleaned tanks and photocopied chapters from a growing algae textbook and the
chapters are as follows:
1.
perpetual
maintenance of actively metabolizing micro algae cultures
2.
photo bioreactors and fermentation
3.
measuring growth
rates in micro algae cultures
Ø
Algae to Oil –
Conducted an informal experiment to rupture the cell walls by using saline
shocking and microwaving.
Ø
Oil to Diesel –
Tried to make a new batch of Biodiesel with ethanol, which wasn’t successful,
and then with methanol. They aren’t sure if the methanol worked because the
experiment was tampered with.
Ø
Research and
Development – Researched the use of LED’s in algae growth, liquid nitrogen for
cell wall rupturing, and they are going to help construct an
algae growing apparatus.
